As UNSG’s Special Envoy for the Ocean, leads global support for the implementation of UN SDG 14. He served as President of the UN General Assembly, 2016-17, as Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the UN 2010-2016, during which time he led the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS and was elected as President of the International Seabed Authority’s Assembly and Council. He is the founding Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Friends of Ocean Action and is a supporting member of the High-Level Panel for Sustainable Ocean Economy.
