Jean-Claude Chermann is a French researcher in virology. He’s an immunology and serology graduate from the Pasteur Institute where he continued working right after his graduation in 1964. In 1967 his obtains his PhD and he continues his career as a researcher in prestigious institutes in France and abroad. In 1988 he becomes the Research Director of the ‘Retrovirus and Associated Diseases’ department at the INSERM in Paris. He joins URRMA Biopharma in 2001 as Scientific Director and founds URRMA R&D in the same year. He was part of Luc Montagnier’s team at the Pasteur Institute who discovered the HIV as the cause of AIDS in 1983.
